  • Disappointed

    by Liberty and Power

I like Ron Paul and think he's done a great service by bringing his sensible views on the Iraq war and the 9/11 attacks to the public's attention. That is the most important thing that has happened in the presidential campaign so far, and it will be tough to beat. I've long known that Ron Paul takes an unlibertarian position on immigration. Still I am deeply disappointed to learn, from an article in the latest Liberty magazine, that he calls the illegal entry of Mexicans into the United S

  • Ron Paul Will Not Go Quietly Into the Night

    by Liberty and Power

The Washington Times is reporting that the Ron Paul campaign has out grown its headquarters. The story quotes Republican media consultant Tom Edmonds relating that, "My gut tells me he's a sleeper and will indeed have an impact on the Republican race." All I can say is good, I hope he is right.

  • The Prophetic Baghdad Bob

    by Liberty and Power

In the puffed up optimism produced by shock and awe, the figure of “Baghdad Bob” (Muhammed Saeed al-Sahaf, the Iraqi Information Minister) was the center of much mirth. His predictions of U.S. defeat, even as American tanks rolled in the background, repeatedly made the rounds on the internet, especially on pro-war blogs. But four years later as Bush’s Iraq policy is

  • Personal Insults in Online Discussions

    by Liberty and Power

The Internet and the World Wide Web have proved themselves to be powerful means of promoting research, scholarly discussion and debate, and all-around learning. At this point it is difficult to imagine doing without them. Yet they have a dark side, too. On that side we find, sometimes even at sites dedicated to professional give-and-take, a remarkable amount of inconsiderate, rude, and downright insulting expression.

  • Correction Please!

    by Liberty and Power

Reading this web page, you would likely conclude that Ron Paul believes the government should (a) maintain the current level of regulation of the sex industry, (b) maintain welfare programs at current levels, and (c) maintain minimum wage and labor regulations at current levels. And there's no mention of his stance against the Iraq War and the federal government's attack on civil liberties. Would someone at Politopia please check out his reco

  • Triumph of Symbolism Over Substance

    by Liberty and Power

On the radio today the subject was did you fly the flag on the Fourth of July. The show was the Bill O'Reilly program with regular Lise Wiehl and a guest host whose name is not worth remembering. They both demonstrated that their personal flying of the flag is meaningless because neither one has a clue as to what the flag stands for. This came to my attention when they expressed support for
