Gilder Lehrman has three online graduate courses on offer this fall

This fall, the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History is offering three graduate-level online courses taught by eminent scholars. The courses give teachers and history enthusiasts the opportunity to immerse themselves in a variety of historical topics and can be audited for $25 or taken for three M.A. credits. Graduate credits from all three courses can also be used towards a Gilder Lehrman M.A. in American History through Adams State University.

The three graduate courses on offer are Colonial North America, led by John Fea, professor of history and chair of the History Department at Messiah College, The Age of Jefferson, led by Peter S. Onuf, Thomas Jefferson Foundation Professor Emeritus at the University of Virginia, and The World at War, led by Michael S. Neiberg, Henry L. Stimson Chair of History in the Department of National Security and Strategy at the United States Army War College.

Colonial North America will analyze the North American colonies separately from the American Revolution and attempt to understand them on their own terms, covering not only the British colonies but those of the French, Spanish, Dutch, and others. The Age of Jeffersonwill focus on Thomas Jefferson’s career and writings and how they defined an era of revolution in America and the emergence of a new nation. The World at Warwill critically examine how the two world wars shaped the social, economic, and political landscape of America. Participants may take as many courses as they wish.

Each course will feature the same elements found in all Gilder Lehrman online graduate courses: small class sizes, lectures by top history professors and special guests, virtual field trips, interactive discussion seminars, the use of digital history tools and online archives, and special pedagogical resources for teachers.
