Belgians turned on their television sets last night to find that their country no longer existed. There was a report that announced that the Dutch-speaking half of the country had declared independence. Now, it wasn't April Fools' Day, and this report wasn't a joke. But the news was false -- despite the convincing footage. So why did the public television station, RTBF, air the fake news report? Yves Thiran is the head of news at RTBF.
