Karen DeYoung publishes first full Colin Powell biography [video 56min]

With her book, Soldier: The Life of Colin Powell, author Karen DeYoung of the Washington Post, provides the first full biography of Powell. The book begins with Powell's childhood in the Bronx and follows his rise through the military ranks, finally ending with his role as Secretary of State in the Bush administration. While not an authorized biography, Powell participated in six on the record interviews and also provided DeYoung with unrestricted access to his personal and professional military papers. DeYoung is an associate editor at the Washington Post, where she has served in a number of senior editing positions. She has also served as a foreign policy reporter in Washington and abroad. She was part of the team at the Post that received a 2002 Pulitzer Prize for coverage of the"war on terror." DeYoung discusses her book with the Dean of Faculty for the Virginia Military Institute, Brigadier General Charles"Casey" Brower. General Brower served as an Army Aide to President Ronald Reagan. General Brower serves as a guest interviewer and is not an employee of C-SPAN.
