Mark Whitaker tells the story of a man who might have been Britain's greatest distance runner, whose name has been forgotten because he was a professional at a time when athletics was dominated by an amateur elite. Peter Gavuzzi, the son of an immigrant Italian chef, took part in two of the most extraordinary foot races ever held -- from one side of the American continent to the other in 1928 and 1929.
