The patrician grandee Macmillan encounters a beguiling young Jack Kennedy, overflowing with energy and charm; a wily Lyndon Johnson pits himself against a Harold Wilson who is easily able to match his American counterpart for cunning. But observers - and indeed Kennedy himself -- are in for some surprises.
