George M. Elsey -- Inside the FDR, Truman & LBJ Administrations [55min]

George M. Elsey talks about his life as Naval aide to FDR and Harry Truman, and assistant to Clark Clifford in the LBJ administration. Along with Truman's special assistant Clifford, Elsey helped formulate the Clifford-Elsey report, a seminal analysis of Soviet expansionism that helped harden U.S. Cold War policy and contributed to the development of the Truman Doctrine. Elsey was Commander, U.S. Naval Reserve, and duty officer, White House Map Room, 1941-46; Assistant to the Special Counsel to the President, 1947-49; Administrative Assistant to the President, 1949-51; Assistant to the Director, Mutual Security Agency, 1951-53.
