Alison Weir's biography -- here abridged by Miranda Davies, read by Janet McTeer -- revisits the facts of Isabella's life and paints a portrait of an astonishing and much maligned queen. Married at the age of twelve to Edward II, she had to grow up very quickly to become an astute stateswoman. She proved to be an inordinately capable queen, overthrowing her tyrannical and misguided husband in favour of her son, Edward III and her lover, Mortimer, who acted as Regent.
