UA Trustees vote to remove George Wallace’s name from UAB building
For over 45 years, a red-brick building on the University of Alabama at Birmingham campus bore the name of former Alabama Gov. George C. Wallace. On Friday, the UA System’s Board of Trustees unanimously voted to rename the facility the Physical Education Building.
“This is simply the right thing to do,” Trustee Judge John England Jr. – who represents the Board of Trustees workgroup formed in June to review the names of UA System buildings that recommended the change – said in a statement.
