WW2 Audio Clips Library

BBC School Radio has recently posted to its History category something called the World War 2 Audio Clips Library, where students and teachers ages 9-11 will be able to access a wide range of audio clips to support their study and teaching of World War 2. The Audio Clips Library is made up of a homepage from which you can access each of the audio files (currently 36 of them) which include speeches, eye-witness accounts, music, soundscapes, etc. There is an emphasis on the lives of British children during the War, including evacuation. However, there are also links to individual pages to support each audio clip where you can read a short context for the clip and, where appropriate, a transcript. Each audio clip is also supported by a photograph which can be displayed on its own (click on the 'View photo' link) while the audio clip is playing. The material is arranged in this way so that users can familiarise themselves with the context of the audio clips while allowing complete flexibility for using the clips with children, classes or study groups. If you’re a UK school teacher you’ll find this arrangement of the material is ideal for use with Interactive Whiteboard Resources, an open-source technology for multi-media classroom presentations: Display the photograph and then play the associated audio. It’s an ideal resource to support your teaching and study of World War 2, adding a vital additional ingredient -- the real sounds of World War 2!
