Ken Livingstone was suspended from the Labour party today after provoking fury with his claim that Hitler backed moving Jews to Israel before he “went mad”.

The former mayor of London will be investigated for “bringing the party into disrepute” over a series of comments that started with a bungling defence of a Labour MP at the centre of an antisemitism row.
