India Gate in New Delhi: "The British were fond of building monuments"

The India Gate can be found in India’s capital New Delhi. The 42-metre-high triumphal arch was completed in 1931, and is dedicated to the memory of the soldiers of the Indian Army who died in the First World World, the North-West Frontier operations and the 1919 Afghan War. Many important roads lead from the India Gate, like those leading to the Rashtrapati Bhavan or Presidential Palace, and another memorial dedicated to India’s most respected political and spiritual leader, Mohandas Gandhi. Producer-presenter Yvonne Gomez says: "I caught up with Jatin Singh when I visited New Delhi recently. He told me more about the India Gate."

Yvonne Gomez joined Radio Singapore International in October 2002 as a producer-presenter, bringing her avid interest in socio-politcal affairs to the English team. Yvonne now engages in armchair vacationing with 'Traveller's Tales', and gets to hear all about the adventures and escapades of visitors to the far reaches of the globe, sometimes adding personal anecdotes from her own travels.

An enthusiastic follower of developments in ethical, international relations and global security issues, Yvonne’s experiences overseas, having studied and lived in both New Zealand and the United States from 1996 to 2002, have allowed her to make mature and objective analyses in her programmes.
