9/11 FDNY tapes -- 9:58am

"A major collapse in one of the towers" is heard in a 1-minute clip from the hours of radio transmissions between fire crews and 911 dispatchers on September 11th 2001, released today by New York City officials after years of legal wrangling between the New York Fire Department, which had tried to keep the records private, and The New York Times and some families of those who died in the September 11th attacks. Each transmission is a visceral reminder of the confusion and horror of that day.
