2007 Cliopatria Awards Nominations: BEST GROUP BLOG

Nominations are now closed.
Look for the winners to be announced in January

Please submit, in comments below, your nominations for the best group blog (other than Cliopatria) by historians or about history published during the period since 1 December 2006. [registration not required to post nominations, but the usual rules of civility and conduct still apply] Nominations will be accepted from November 1st through 30th.

Please include a URL for the blog(s). You many nominate as many blogs as you wish in this category, and you may nominate individual posts or bloggers in other categories as well.

If you want ideas of blogs or writers to nominate, see the History Blogroll or past editions of the History Carnival or its related carnivals.

Bloggers do not need to be academic historians. If you're not sure whether a blog or blogger qualifies as"history," nominate them anyway and the judges will make a final determination. If you have questions, feel free to contact Ralph Luker or leave a comment here.

Judging Committee: Timothy Burke, Miriam Elizabeth Burstein, Adam Roberts
[Judges are ineligible to win awards they are judging, but feel free to nominate them for something else!]

I vote for the Religion in American History blog--an example of academic crowdsourcing with lively conversation, engaging dialogue, and humor, too.

As ever, I'm going to duck out of choosing between them:

Dear Cliopatria's Selection Committee,

Please consider Religion in American History (url: for best group blog.

What I appreciate about RAH is that, in addition to covering an array of issues (i.e. cults, regions, persons) in the history of religion, they also keep up with popular culture and consider philosophical/meta issues inside their topic. They post book reviews and allow for guest writers. In every way this is a group effort.

Let's increase RAH's profile by giving them this award!

Self-nominations are accepted, right? :)

Bear with me on this one though, because it's going to be a little tricky to judge. We changed our software platform at the beginning of October, and the old software provider ate all our old content before that time.

So here's how it stands now: Content since the beginning of October is here; My own handpicked highlights from the previous year are here; full content is available in archive form here (click "open folders").

My suggestion? If you don't disqualify us for sheer messiness, glance over the first and second links, and ignore the unwieldy third link -- and then adjust your opinion of us down a couple of notches, given that the "highlights" are probably a little better overall than the entire blog was.

Sorry about the mess, and thanks for your indulgence!
