Nov 9, 2005NEH & Antique Civility
Don't misunderstand me: I'm all for the National Endowment for the Humanities. It has been good to me at times. I'm in favor of civility. It's the only alternative to war. I'm a collector of antiques that also serve household purposes. But give me a break: National Humanities Medals for Miss Manners and the Antiques Roadshow's Keno twins! The Bush Endowment doesn't trivialize everything it touches. Serious congratulations to Walter Berns, Matthew Bogdanos, Eva Brann, John Lewis Gaddis, Richard Gilder, Mary Ann Glendon, Alan Charles Kors, Lewis Lehrman, and The Papers of George Washington, who are co-recipients with Miss Manners and the Keno twins.
