Conservatives condemn Obama as a hypocrite on issues related to war miss the fact that he was more hawkish than McCain on several issues, notably Afghanistan. He never pretended to be peacenik.
On one issue, however, he is clearly guilty of hypocrisy. Here is what he said during the campaign about the role of Congress:
The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation.
