The police didn't find the gun they were looking for in this lockdown of a New Mexico school, but perhaps the effort can be praised as part of the war against obesity.

Alas, there's nothing new here.

The approach we are advised to take is to put weapons detectors at the doors of every school. We are to be paranoid and suspicious. We are not to assume the humanity of our community.

We are to militarize ourselves and our institutions.
