Know what this is? Guess I didn't.

This NYT story is interesting in lots of ways, but what struck me the most was the revelation that that famous photo of the helicopter evacuating people from the embassy roof in Saigon is actually something else. Have a look!

In other news, my promotion to Associate is now official. Woo-hoo!

Thanks Chris! The tenuring and promotions processes here are thankfully more rational than at American Idol.
Further clarification for those who were curious: I spent 8 or so years in non-tenure-track positions before landing here, then was eligible to apply for tenure early (credit for "time served"?), but promotion and tenure are de-linked here, so I was obliged to wait a year before applying for associate. But now I'm both, Zeus be praised.

Let mine be another Voice added to the Congratulations Choir! (Don't know if we're all, uh, good enough, to be finalists on "American Idol"... but glad we can sing your praises.) :)

Let me add my congrats!

Thanks!! I've spent the last year in the odd status of tenured assistant prof. After all the gypsy years, it's nice to be relatively settled.

Hey congrats on the promotion!
