Just sayin' is all . . .

To interrupt the heated debate over L'Affaire Reeves:

Patriots 41 Steelers 27.

As the Thunderstick just wrote to me in an email:"As they noted on ESPN Radio this morning, two weekends ago we held the best offense in football to 3 points. This week, we rang up 41 on the best defense. Talk about completely humiliating a team's stregths."

We have the Super Bowl coming up, and I'll admit that the Eagles will scare the heck out of me by then if they do not know, just because that's what two weeks of hype will do. Pats are favored by 6. That seems about right. But the Eagles are tough and McNabb is different from any qb we've faced before. Still, bet against the Patriots at your own peril.

This will be a long two weeks.

That's the spirit!

Since I'm getting rather used to crow with my playoff predictions, having gone 0-a lot, I think I shall declare that the Patriots are going to win the Super Bowl. They can't be stopped. By anyone. Ever.

Here's the thing: The Eagles do not have the Colts offense, but they have a damned good offense, one better than that of the Steelers. The Eagles do not have Pittsburgh's D, but they have a damned good D, and one far better than that of the Colts. That O-D balance makes them dangerous, maybe far more dangerous than anyone expects.

Chad Lewis is not, repeat not, a big part of the offense and hasn't been since his pro-bowl year. L.J. Smith has been doing quite nicely thank you. And as for the emergence of that other Lewis, Greg, well that is a pleasant surprise.

David Lion Salmanson - 1/25/2005

Actually, I think the line is going to go up. The Times today called the Patriots the New Yankees and Brady now has "mystique"; Bellicheck is a genius etc; I like the Eagles chances (although, like you, I think the game will be close. Few take the Eagles seriously, or have noted a significant change from previous years. For the first time, Andy Reid can coach during a game as well as before it. He has been far less stubborn this year (starting with getting TO after years of saying "this system doesn't need a top receiver") and that is going to be a key. I noticed BB is already talking down the Pats, the tricky guy. Gotta go read Easterbrook.

Chris --
But it's always about the Sox-Yanks, isn't it?
The funny thing about all of this is that i KNEW the Pats would beat the Steelers and I Knew they would beat the Colts. Not so certain as of right now. It might be possible to overstate the effect of losing TO, though yes, that is never good. But the Pats are missing a lot more than the Eagles and that team has a lot of that destiny thing going for them.
Of course I have faith in the Pats, but I do not think a line of (now) 6.5 is something in which i have a lot of faith. That's a big line for a Super Bowl.

"Toilet bowl???" You've been to Fenway, right?

chris l pettit - 1/25/2005

I think you have to feel good, DC. I just don;t see the Iggles putting up much resistance. THey will fight, but without Lewis...wow...lots to overcome.

I like how the conversation went from pedro to the Sox in the same sentence even though we are talking about both the AL and NL...

I gotta think the Sox are still above the Yanks...if Beltran went to NY, I might have been persuaded differently...but that rotation for NY is horrendous...Jaret Wright? Are you kidding me? Watch Wade Miller become a star...and i think Arroyo can keep things up.

Of course my Sox now have both El Duque and Contreas...do we just want the Yanks castoffs? When did Ken Williams revert into his old idiotic self? Although, Buerhle, Garcia, Contreas and El Duque with Garland as #5 don't look half bad on paper...something you could talk yourself into losing lots of money over...especially with no Mags, no Carlos Lee, no Valentin, and Crede still at third...another year...another 2nd or 3rd place finish...sigh

Pats 27 Iggles 14

David --
Congrats. You guys have been waiting for a while. It'll be fun, I think. do not like that line and bet that enough people will agree that it will get down to 2-3 by game time.
You might have the MVP part right . . .

David Lion Salmanson - 1/24/2005

Pittsburgh was gonna be exposed sooner or later. Now, for me, I hope my former student passes for 300 yards or so and becomes the second Super Bowl MVP of a losing team.

Derek Charles Catsam - 1/24/2005

Winning one in this century is proving difficult for some teams too. I cannot wait for the first chants to be heard at the fens and by Sox Fanms in the Toilet Bowl in the Bronx: "Year Two Thousand!"
In any case, the most recent is always the most rewarding.

Winning the 27th championship is always the toughest...

Derek Charles Catsam - 1/24/2005

Uh-huh. Keep dreamin' Yankee boy.

"Sox are rollin"? I'm confused. This simply won't happen next year.

Derek Charles Catsam - 1/24/2005

That will change when they are ten games out and the Sox are rollin and the NY media is all over him. He won't be happy. He'll regret it, I bet. I think pedro does want to win. I think the Sox will continue to do so.

Richard Henry Morgan - 1/24/2005

I don't think so. I think Pedro wants the benjamins, and he wants to be the man. Neither of which he would necessarily get at Boston. He might have to share the limelight with Schilling, or even play second fiddle to him.

Derek Charles Catsam - 1/24/2005

Boring like a Fox!

I promise you Pedro will be realizing he made a huge mistake by August.

Rich Holmes - 1/24/2005

Well Pedro pitches for the Mets now...

Gosh my material is getting worse and worse these days.

Belichick is boring! There!
