Peter Charles Hoffer on "Booknotes" ...
Peter Charles Hoffer, the author of Past Imperfect: Facts, Fictions, Fraud – American History from Bancroft and Parkman to Ambrose, Bellesiles, Ellis, and Goodwin (2004), appeared last night on C-Span's"Booknotes." Here is the transcript. The transcript is an interesting short introduction to Hoffer's argument. There are some odd moments in it, I thought. The reverence for Bernard Bailyn is remarkable and counting the 16 editions of John Garrity's American Nation as 16 books seems, well, odd. Tip of the hat to Clayton Cramer, who appreciatively acknowledges that he gets a mention.
