Because of the travail of the Palestinian people, the death of Yassar Arafat will dominate Western headlines. My colleagues, Manan Ahmed and Hala Fattah, regret that the death last week of Sheik Zayed bin Sultan Al Nayan of the United Arab Emirates did not receive similar attention. Manan's post at Chapati Mystery and Patrick Seale's"The Remarkable Legacy of Sheik Zayed" in The Daily Star explain.

There has been much condemnation of Arafat. And much condemnation of the Palestinians because they were willing to follow him.

Much of that is deserved, but this is hardly the first time in history that a bandit became a leader because a people were denied a legitimate voice.
