I recall having a message-board debate with a college student a number of months ago. I was taking a libertarian position, and he was taking a basic textbook statist / liberal position, pointing to all of the academics who held his view, and labelling thinkers like Nozick as having been discredited. When I pointed out how academe was a self-reinforcing liberal orthodoxy, his assertion was that maybe academics are all liberal because they're just smarter than everyone else.
