Jul 23, 2004Hummel Responds: Blog War on the Civil War
Because of heavy demands on his time right now, Liberty and Power blogger, Jeffrey Rogers Hummel is not able to respond at great length in the dispute (see here and here) generated by my article (co-authored with Charles Nuckolls) ,"Wrong Song of the South: The Dangers of Confederate Multiculturalism."
Hummel does have this to say, however:
"the claim by one individual that 75 percent of the national government's antebellum revenue came from the South is simply laughable. Southerner's may have paid a disproportionate SHARE on a per capita or more likely per income basis, but since there were far fewer of them and the region was poorer, the North generated far more revenue in absolute terms."
