Kudos for Hummel in Reviews in American History
In "Libertarians in the Attic," Daniel Feller, in Reviews in American history, has an essay on three recent works on the Civil War. One of them is by L and P blogger, Jeffrey Rogers Hummel. The others are by Charles Adams, and Thomas DiLorenzo. Feller is pretty hard on Adams and DiLorenzo but is generally favorable to Hummel's account.
Feller is right in identifying Emancipating Slaves, Enslaving Free Men as by far the best of the three. One virtue of the book, as I already pointed out, is that avoids the dangerous fallacies of"Confederate Multiculturalism." Unfortunately, Hummel's book has not gotten the attention it deserves.
