Blogs Liberty and Power The Filmed Atrocity of "Blue Eyed"
Jun 22, 2004The Filmed Atrocity of "Blue Eyed"
The Rocky Mountain News has a good article on "Blue Eyed," a film showing diversity training sessions presided over by Jane Elliott. In her methods, Ms. Elliott gleefully relies on inflicting humiliation and degradation on the participants. The true tragedy is, however, that her techniques are considered perfectly respectable by many people in this field and have been used as a basis for countless (often mandatory) diversity training sessions.
Fortunately, I and other members of the the Alabama Scholars Association at the University of Alabama were able to defeat an attempt to impose mandatory diversity training in the College of Education which would have included showing of this film. We did it by going over the heads of administrators to the press.
I am at a Liberty Fund Conference. More later.
