Intellectual, as well as, Academic Freedom
While I'm sure we all have mixed feelings, at best about the Council on Foreign Relations, this piece in today's New York Times about attempts by Henry Kissinger to suppress public knowledge of his role in the overthrow of Salvador Allende's government in Chile is another in a long line of troubling moves by former government officials to prevent the release of government documents.
As a history blog, I think our discussions about teaching academic freedom are very important, but do we as a group, spend enough time discussing how badly recent administrations have abused the FOIA?
