University of George, Perhaps ...
Like Erin O'Connor says, you just can't make these things up. The powers who govern the University of Georgia and its fund-raising arm have been at each others' throats for a year now. Trustees of the University of Georgia Foundation have fought to oust the University President, Michael Adams; but he has the support of the State Board of Regents. Recently, the Regents decided that in order to settle the issue it would order the Foundation to cease raising funds in the University's behalf and establish a new fund-raising agency. Now, the Foundation's Trustees point out that the Regents failed to renew their title of ownership of the University's name when it expired in 1997. In May 2003, lawyers for trustees of the University of Georgia Foundation filed papers claiming title to the University of Georgia's name. If the claim is confirmed, the trustees of the University of Georgia Foundation could conceivably order the University to no longer claim to be the University of Georgia.
