Virginia Tech




The AP wire reports that 21 victims and the shooter are dead; and 21 others were injured in shootings this morning at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg. The second time in less than a year that gunfire has broken out at Tech, this is the largest loss of life from gunfire on a campus in American history. See also: Collegiate Times. In conjunction with News Channel 10, WSLS-TV, the Lynchburg News & Advance has live local telecasting about the tragedy.
Update: 33 people are now confirmed dead; 29 other people were injured.

I was just at the Virginia Forum and spent some time with a Virginia Tech prof. I'm as horrified as Jonathan.

I grew up in MD and DC: I've known VTI students and faculty for years.

They're citing Columbine, of course, but it's the Texas sniper and Montreal Polytechnic shootings which are the examples I think of first.

Here comes the press conference....
