Things Noted Here and There

Martin Rundkvist will host History Carnival XLVIII at Aardvarchaeology on 15 February. Use the form to send your nominations of the best in history blogging since 1 February.

Ed Caesar,"Blow Out! History's 10 Greatest Banquets," Independent, 10 February. Thanks to Manan Ahmed for the tip.

The Federalist Papers. Online and searchable. Thanks to Milan at World History Blog for the tip.

Amazing Grace, the film about William Wilberforce's campaign to end the slave trade, opens on 23 February. If its trailer is any indication, Amazing Grace is a must see.

Mick Brown,"Fairy Tales of Happy Slaves," Telegraph, 4 February, reviews Marybeth Hamilton's In Search of the Blues: Black Voices, White Visions. Two good YouTubes: Ledbelly -- Three Songs by Leadbelly; and Queen Mothers of the Blues.

Sam Dillon,"Troubles Grow for a University Built on Profits," NY Times, 11 February. The nation's largest private university sucked down $1.8 billion in student aid in 2004-05. Perhaps for-profit institutions should be ineligible for student-aid.

Phillip Carter,"There Are Four Iraq Wars: How Many of Them Can We Win?" Slate, 9 February; and William E. Odom,"Victory is Not an Option," Washington Post, 11 February.
