Of Our Germanic Selves

Anthony Grafton's"The Nutty Professors: The History of Academic Charisma," New Yorker, 23 October, a review of William Clark's Academic Charisma and the Origins of the Research University, is a must read. See also: the commentary on it by John Carter Woods,"Novel Campus," Obscene Desserts, 17 October. I was listening to Paul L. Fine and Rod Long's version of Immanuel Kant's"The Transcendental Deduction of the Pure Concepts of Understanding" as I read the Grafton article. Maybe we should sing historical complexity to our students.
