A Pollyanna Moment

I was surfing the news this morning when I ran across this hopeful article about political reform in Bolivia. A bit later I remember the scene in the Disney version of Pollyanna in which the minister is sent looking for the happy verses in the Bible.

Hope is hard to come by in the international news these days. Just try searching for “hope” in Google News and see what I mean. When it does come up it is hard won, as in this Lebanon story. Still, even hard-won hope (maybe especially hard-won hope) lifts the soul.

That’s in part the nature of news, of course. Pain always has a better chance of making the front pages—or any pages for that matter. Add to that wars and rumors of war and ruins of war and it’s hard for hope to slip into the mix.

I’m about to take a short vacation (though I made nod in briefly). I leave you with this thought, that as you sweep through the web today, look harder for hope than usual. You never know what you might find.
