Yeah, and it often seems like the better they are, the worse they are; i.e., when you look at the Presidents who did the most libertarian things, they always seem to be trying their damnedest to cancel out the merits of their pro-liberty achievemnts by turning around and doing the most horrifically anti-liberty things they can think of. (Jefferson, Jackson, and Lincoln all come to mind.)
Grover Cleveland has long been my pick as the best of the bunch. But one must consider the nature of the bunch (U.S. presidents). Delving into the details of Cleveland's record, one quickly finds plenty to dislike. Hardly surprising: after all, he was a successful politician (from which we may ordinarily infer a great deal).
