Cliopatria's Bookshelf

Two weeks ago, I mentioned that both KC Johnson and Jonathan Reynolds are publishing new books this fall, KC's Congress and the Cold War and, with Eric Gilbert, Jonathan's Trading Tastes. But, while I was doing some bibliographic work yesterday, I found that there is much more to report and celebrate, particularly among Cliopatria's contributing editors.

In December, Facts on File is publishing Hala Fattah's second book, A Brief History of Iraq. What more opportune moment could there be for a book? In January, Michael Kazin's much anticipated A Godly Hero: The Life of William Jennings Bryan (Alfred A. Knopf) is sure to offer fresh insight on the Nebraska Democrat, pacifist Secretary of State, and progressive believer in creationism. Jim Cobb and Sean Wilentz have mastered the art of simultaneously publishing the big book and the smaller book. Cobb's big book is: Away Down South: A History of Southern Identity (Oxford University Press). His smaller book, The Brown Decision, Jim Crow and Southern Identity (University of Georgia Press), is his Lamar Lectures. Sean Wilentz's The Rise of American Democracy: Jefferson to Lincoln (W. W. Norton) will weigh in at just under 1,000 pages. His new biography of Andrew Jackson (Times Books) is a quarter of that length.

Did someone say bloggers don't do serious scholarship? In honor of new books by Jim Cobb, Hala Fattah, KC Johnson, Michael Kazin, Jonathan Reynolds, and Sean Wilentz, I have created Cliopatria's Bookshelf, a complete list of the Cliopatricians' books. It's just under the fold. Can any other academic group blog on the net match it?
