New musical tells story of Anne Frank

The Anne Frank Foundation is supporting a new musical in Madrid based on the diary of the Jewish girl who died in Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in 1945. The theatre group responsible for the musical, which opens next month, visited the Amsterdam flat where the Franks hid from the Nazis. The founder of the project, Rafael Alvero, said: ‘The thing we want to do is through the music, to understand the story better.’ The lead role is played by Cuban-born Isabella Castillo; the 13-year-old said: ‘If you're doing a musical of the family and how they lived and the house and everything, I think it's very special, and a very important detail, to come to this house.’
