Online Forum: The Imprisoned Black Radical Tradition (August 24-28)

Black Perspectivesthe award-winning blog of the African American Intellectual History Society (AAIHS), will host an online forum in honor of Black August on the Imprisoned Black Radical Tradition organized by incarcerated writer, activist and intellectual Stephen Wilson and historian and professor Garrett Felber. The forum begins on Monday, August 24th and concludes on Friday, August 28th. The online forum will feature essays, poems, and interviews from Stephen Wilson, Garrett FelberRussell Maroon ShoatzJoy PowellDan BergerOrisanmi BurtonCasey GoonanJoy JamesToussaint Losier and Dylan Rodríguez.

The participants will grapple with the meaning and significance of what Wilson has termed the ‘Incarcerated Black Radical Tradition.” According to Wilson, “the Imprisoned Black Radical Intellectual Tradition, a discipline with a history and a body of rigorous scholarship, is the origin of the Black Radical Intellectual Tradition. It is imperative that African American intellectuals engage this tradition.” “It is my hope that the reader’s interest in this tradition is piqued,” Wilson adds. “I hope it motivates the reader to make connections with the work and the intellectuals producing the work. Our success as a people depends upon us staying connected and engaged. Let this roundtable be a means of achieving this goal.”

During the week of the online forum, Black Perspectives will publish new blog posts every day at 5:30AM EST.
