Director leaving Lincoln presidential museum in Illinois after conflict with the governor

Eileen Mackevich, named director of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in 2010, has resigned.

"I have submitted my resignation to the governor today," Mackevich said Friday. "The governor suggested he wanted to go in a different direction."

The move comes a week after Gov. Bruce Rauner appointed four new members to the board of the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency, which governs the library and museum.

Rauner appointed museum chief of staff Nadine O'Leary as acting director. A national search for a permanent replacement is underway, according to a news release from the governor's office....
