The Seattle Public Library’s digital collection celebrates neighborhood history

The Seattle Public Library's digital collections feature digitized materials selected from the Library's special collections, including historical photographs, documents, city directories and more.

Recently, the Library created the Seattle Neighborhood History Project collection.  This collection provides a starting point for accessing historical information about Seattle neighborhoods. This digital collection is one of twelve that the Library has made available online and that are powered by OCLC’s CONTENTdm Digital Collection Management Software

The categories for the items in the Seattle Neighborhood History Project fall into three main groups: (1) general neighborhood history; (2) buildings, businesses and organizations; and (3) neighborhood infrastructure and services. Many of the resources available on Seattle neighborhood history can be found by navigating to one of the thirty-five individual neighborhood pages or to the additional resources page on this site.

A few of the assets in this collection of over 1,000 items include: digitized photographs, maps, menus, oral histories and publications related to Seattle neighborhoods; a list of general sources particularly useful for neighborhood history research; the HistoryLink.org online encyclopedia; historical newspapers; and the Seattle Civil Rights and Labor History Project.
