I asked an Indian visitor what she thinks about recent developments in Kashmir. "I am worried," she said, "the US has been very engaged in the region, so there has been progress but the US is withdrawing from the region, creating a power vacuum and Kashmir will rekindle". May I add that this women is definitely not an admirer of the Bush administration.

To paraphrase Churchill "American hegemony is the worst global arrangement except for all others."
