EUROPEANS DO NOT WISH TO LOSE THEIR POWER

Under current circumstances, increasing the power of the EU at the expense of national governments means decreasing, rather than increasing, the power of individual voters to control their fate. In other words, the EU constitution is less democratic than those of the constitutions of its individual members. The recent elections signify that Europeans will do their best to block this attempt by the governing elites to erode their power. It seems that the prospect of national referendum on the EU has given voters hope that they may be able to block the disempowering move. Elites may value"rights" over elections but the people know whence their power lies.
