Russian Revolution anniversary project

A ten-year project to mark the centenary of the Russian Revolution is to be launched this week. A major new study of Russia’s involvement in the First World War and 1917 Revolution will be announced at a symposium at the University of Aberdeen from July 22nd-24th. Experts from across the world will agree to publish at least six new books by 2017, covering the military struggle, international relations, the home front and culture. Dr Tony Heywood, Senior Lecturer in Modern European History at the University of Aberdeen, said the project ‘will review the existing literature and could potentially involve up to 200 specialists from around the world contributing chapters that address as many of the big gaps in our knowledge as possible, especially the 1914-17 period.’ Funding has come from the University of Aberdeen, University of Wisconsin, The British Academy, The Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation, The British Association for Slavonic and East European Studies, and the Kennan Institute for Advanced Russian Studies in Washington DC.
